Join us for our annual conference exploring the essential intersection of mental health, law, ethics, and technology in clinical practice. This engaging half-day event is designed for mental health professionals and will equip participants with the knowledge and tools needed to navigate the rapidly evolving landscape of digital mental health care.


The conference will cover the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in treatment, examine ethical and legal frameworks for technology use, and offer guidance on enhancing digital competency to improve client outcomes. Hear from leading experts as they provide valuable insights into the benefits and challenges technology brings to the mental health field.

Understand the Role of AI in Clinical Practice: Participants will identify the applications of artificial intelligence in mental health care, including how to implement effective AI tools for treatment planning, documentation, and client engagement.
Navigate Ethical and Legal Frameworks:  Participants will gain insight into the ethical considerations and legal requirements surrounding technology use in mental health, including HIPAA compliance and strategies for mitigating risks associated with technology integration.
Enhance Digital Competency for Improved Client Outcomes: Participants will explore methods to effectively collaborate with technology while focusing on techniques that promote  service delivery for clients.

PRESENTERS

Dr. Christie L. Ferguson
Artificial Intelligence Within the Legal and Mental Health World Today

Dr. Ferguson is the interim dean of the School of Business and Professional Studies and Director of Paralegal Studies at Nashville State Community College. She holds an associate degree in accounting from Utah Valley State University, a magna cum laude bachelor's in business administration from Strayer University, and a cum laude Juris Doctor from Western Michigan University. Her diverse career includes roles in marketing with Blendtec, insurance with Farmers and Shelter Insurance, and criminal defense with Weise Law. A technology advocate, she implemented the Law Office Technology Certificate at Nashville State, became AI Certified in 2022, and explores AI applications monthly to enhance teaching and student outcomes.

Dr. Mary Mayogora, Ph.D., LPC-S (TX), LPC-MHSP (TN), NCC, CCDS, CART
AI: Legal & Ethical Issues in the Counseling Profession

Mary G. Mayorga, Ph.D., is a Licensed Professional Counselor-Supervisor in Texas, LPC-MHSP in Tennessee, National Certified Counselor, and Certified Anger Resolution Therapist with a background as a Licensed Vocational Nurse. She holds certifications in Chemical Dependency, Coaching, and Mindfulness. With a Ph.D. in Counselor Education from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, Dr. Mayorga has researched conflict resolution, wellness, and self-care, focusing on stress and burnout in counseling. She brings over 20 years of experience in private practice with couples, families, substance abuse, and women’s issues. Dr. Mayorga has published extensively in counseling journals and presents nationally and internationally, while also contributing “pro bono” work in her community.

Dr. Andrea Sheffield, Ph.D., LMFT
Clinicians Working with Technology and AI: Challenges, Benefits, and Ethical Considerations

Dr. Sheffield received her bachelor's degree from Tennessee State University and her master's and PhD in Clinical Counseling from Trevecca Nazarene University. She is a member of the Tennessee Department of Mental Health & Substance Abuse Services Planning and Policy Council – Region IV, and a listed Rule 31 mediator. Dr. Sheffield supervises a multi-state crisis hotline for youth in foster care with Youth Villages, and provides individual and marriage counseling at her private practice, Sheffield Counseling Services.
