This training provides an overview of domestic violence and its significant impact on mental health. It covers the signs, risk factors, and challenges victims face when leaving abusive relationships. The presentation highlights the link between domestic violence and conditions like PTSD, depression, anxiety, and traumatic brain injury. It emphasizes the importance of trauma-informed support and offers resources for safe, professional help.

OBJECTIVES

IDENTIFY
the various forms and dynamics of domestic violence, including physical, emotional, financial, and psychological abuse.
APPLY
trauma-informed, strengths-based, and culturally responsive therapeutic approaches when working with survivors.
DEMONSTRATE
appropriate safety planning, mental health screening, and referral strategies for clients affected by domestic violence.
ANALYZE
the ethical complexities involved in domestic violence cases, including issues related to confidentiality, informed consent, and mandated reporting.

Meet your instructor
Amanda Cooper, LMSW
Amanda is a compassionate and trauma-informed therapist with over three
years of experience supporting individuals and families affected by domestic violence. As a
Family Therapist at the YWCA of Nashville & Middle Tennessee, she developed and leads the
organization’s therapeutic program, providing evidence-based interventions, clinical
assessments, and group facilitation. Amanda holds a Master of Science in Social Work from the University of Tennessee and is a Licensed Master Social Worker in the State of Tennessee. She is dedicated to advancing ethical, culturally responsive care and empowering survivors through collaborative, multidisciplinary support.
